Judge Says Trump Has to Turn Over His Private Financial Records

(IntegrityMag.com) – Former President Donald Trump hasn’t held a political office for over half a year now. Yet, his name still pops up on news headlines nearly every week. This time, he’s making headlines for a decision handed down by US District Judge Amit Mehta.

On Wednesday, August 11, Mehta approved a subpoena from the House Oversight and Reform Committee asking Trump to turn over his personal financial records. Specifically, the former president’s accounting firm, Mazars, must hand over records relating to a lease he held with the General Services Administration (GSA) in respect of a hotel in Washington, DC.

Conservatives will likely rail against this development, highlighting it as further evidence of the supposed deep-seated bias the liberal class holds against Trump. However, the courts don’t exclusively side with Democrats in this matter.

Despite the fact that Wednesday’s judgment allows officials to subpoena the former president’s records, the order is much narrower in scope than an earlier version originally sought by leaders on the Left. The judge placed limitations on what information he must share, deciding the initial version was far too intrusive.

The long and sordid history of Democratic attacks against former President Trump stretches back even before his presidency. Yet, for some reason, they insist he cheated the system or conned his way into his millionaire status, despite never finding proof. This could be just another example of the same fruitless campaign to smear his reputation.
