Save Time AND Money With This Clever Transportation Trick
(IntegrityMag.com) – Keeping your car full of fuel is expensive at the best of times. Of course, if you have to commute to work or school, or bring your kids to their various engagements, you may not have much choice. Some people choose to save on fuel expenses through carpooling; if you’re in a situation that might allow you to use carpooling, it could lead to significant monthly cost reductions for you.
Getting Started
The first step toward launching any carpool arrangement is finding other people to join you. The most convenient place to find these individuals is your place of work, as you’ll all have the same destination. If you work in a large company, try circulating an email to find people who live near you or on your way to work and would be interested in carpooling.
If that doesn’t work for you, carpooling websites and apps connect people seeking to share rides. You don’t have to work at the same company as long as your places of work are located within a short distance of one another or along the same route. Some online carpooling services are free, while others come at a cost.
What Are the Benefits?
The most obvious advantage of carpooling is the money you (and your associates) save on gas. Gas prices are constantly fluctuating, and unexpected price spikes can make it much more expensive to fill your car overnight. Carpooling can help to insulate you from this risk.
There are also environmental benefits to carpooling; the fewer cars on the road, the less carbon we collectively emit into the atmosphere. When leaders around the world are laser-focused on greenhouse gas reduction and sustainable methods of transport, carpooling is a great way to do your bit to help.
Additionally, some urban areas in the United States have High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes, more commonly known as carpool lanes. Having access to these special lanes can cut commute times significantly, especially in busy areas.
Even bringing one extra person on your journey every day could lead to significant savings and other benefits. However, the more people you carpool with, the more pronounced the benefits are. A recent Forbes article estimates joining a carpool group of four people could cut your traveling expenses by around 75% monthly.
So, if high gas prices and stories about climate change are starting to stress you out, perhaps carpooling could help ease the crunch.
